The Art and Science of Karate

Many people see karate training as an activity, or a sport, the fact is that most people have little idea of the power of karate and the martial arts to push the boundaries of creativity, intelligent thought and development.

Sir Ken Robinson TED Talks

Society in general along with the modes and conventions we accept and live with, make up what people determine as normal every day life, for example people that practise extreme sports are often seen as adrenaline seekers and placed into a category outside of the rank and file members of the public.

Indeed within the opinions of general society, sports and activities such as golf and tennis are seen as respected and established, while martial arts are still widely viewed as prima facie activities beneficial for fitness and self defence, or those people described as needed 'toughening up', or 'calming down'.

Of course, karate and the martial arts is beneficial for self defence and the more obvious traits, however, many people only realise the true benefits of karate once they experience it for themselves, the art and science of karate, pushing their personal boundaries of creativity, independent thought and personal development which is the basis for developing confidence and self esteem the two essential  ingredients for success.

Another well documented convention are the values of state education and the emphasis placed on academia over creative aptitude, educating learners to become good at passing exams and good workers within society often dismissing creative aspirations rather than cultivating and encouraging - as one careers officer said to me 25 years ago "Forget being a karate instructor John, that's not a proper job, join the police force instead."

In the video below, Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

At Fudoshin Karate we have developed the Syllabus Education Programme, designed to promote both academic learning and creative aptitude, the programme is presented and delivered in a number of formats, from structured training, courses, championships, DVD's and on and offline training materials designed to nurture and encourage students to achieve and and works 100% of the time for 100% of karate students that work to achieve success.

The good news is that anyone who wants to achieve and learn from our karate programme has the opportunity to do so every month at one of our beginners courses.
